I’d like to share an amazing story with you about having impact. Kendall Lott and I recently returned from a special trip to Houston, Texas where we were able to participate in the Houston PMDoS. We were invited to scope projects with nonprofits as many of you did for PMDoS DC earlier this year. The experience was incredible and literally brought many in the room to tears, both project managers and nonprofit leaders. We are having impact. We are making a difference. We are changing the world, one project at a time. Here’s their story:
PMDoS is spreading nationally!
The Houston PMI Chapter along with Points of Light, Volunteer Houston, and the Taproot Foundation held their own PMDoS last month. The event drew 37 nonprofits and 140 project managers who worked together to define a scope of work and plan that would address the specific needs of each nonprofit.
According to PMI Houston, Trish Schappell, Founder and Chair of The Kids’ Reading Room, acted immediately on her team’s recommendations and is already having an impact. “Sunday's event was instrumental in helping my organization move forward! I cannot express how grateful I am for being able to attend. I love my team! For the first time, I don't feel alone. Thank you!”
PMI Houston member Melissa Smith described the positive impact she and the nonprofit experienced at the ScopeAthon, “It was my first time to volunteer for a PMI event and I had a wonderful time. I felt like we gave our nonprofit organization some much needed direction and great ideas.”
Our own Laura Barnard and Kendall Lott, the founders of PMDoS, were there to participate and witness the impact of the ScopeAthon. It's clear that PMDoS is an event whose time has come and whose impact is being noticed across the nation.
